Acquittal of Officials at "Disability" Authority for Disbursing 5 Million Dinars in Salaries to Ineligible Individuals
A misdemeanor court acquitted a former Director General of the Public Authority for Disabled Affairs and others of causing significant damage to public funds by disbursing salaries to ineligible and deceased individuals, totaling nearly 5 million dinars. The defense attorney for the former director, Dr. Fawaz Khaled Al-Khatib, argued that the elements of the crime were not present and the accusations were vague. He emphasized that his client did not violate Law No. 8 of 2010 regarding the rights of persons with disabilities, clarifying that the entity responsible for approving the disbursements is the Public Authority for Social Insurance, which had reviewed the cases before approving the payments. This indicates the correctness of the disbursement procedures and the necessity of auditing by the Social Insurance Authority before payments are made, in accordance with Article 66 of the Law on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities.
